Old traditional apron of the Hungarians from Transylvania, Kalotaszeg region. Very rare pleated apron for high ceremonies made with ribbons, beads, rosettes handmade from ribbons and beads. The purple background is made of "hair", a kind of hand-woven, hand-pleated fine wool. The waist is decorated with small beads that form a superb geometric pattern. The black ribbons form a border on all sides of the folk apron. It has three rows of vertical handmade embroidery and what is rare and splendid about this apron, something that attests to its age is the purple wool background and the vertical embroidery with birds.
Splendid old traditional Hungarian aprn in good condition, with normal wear for an apron of this age: slightly dirty, but without affecting its beauty, some very small holes in the purple wool fabric and some missing tubular beads.
