Old pleated Romanian or Hungarian apron from the Calata folkloric region ( Kalotaszeg in Hungarian ) with beads, traditional pleated and beaded apron from Calata County.
This Romanian or Hungarian folk apron is pleated by hand from a commercial cotton material. It is decorated at the waist with beads in an intricate network of geometric patterns that support the pleats and along its entire length with two strips of beads applied by hand on a bed of PVC (plastic) and then on the canvas probably to give strength for so many applied beads . It has embroidered ribbons in the waist designed to give the appearance of a higher waist. Personally, I'ld give it up at this ribbon area .
Length 93 cm ( 36.6 " )
At the waist, the part embroidered with beads is 45 cm wide (17.7 " )
Age: probably handmade in the 80s.
Condition: good condition, with traces of wear, without major defects.
This particular apron is estimated to be from the 1970s or 1980s and is in good condition without minor signs of wear or damage. To preserve its integrity, it is recommended to dry clean only. Although traditionally Hungarian, this apron is also worn by Romanians from Cluj, Salaj, and certain areas of Arad, making it a testament to the cultural richness of the Kalotaszeg region.
