Antique Hungarian traditional blouse meticulously hand-embroidered with black woolen thread on the cuffs, tunic collar, and vertical lines extending from under the armpits to the lower hem. The embroidery graces a blue azure cotton fabric, dyed at home. In certain villages within the Kalotaszeg region, only blue shirts were traditionally worn. This particular Hungarian folk blouse, available for purchase, has gracefully withstood the test of time, boasting an age of over 60 years.
This exceptionally rare traditional Hungarian blouse from Kalotaszeg in Transylvania is in good condition given its age, showcasing museum-quality craftsmanship.
Condition: Good, with no noticeable stains, tears, or repairs. Due to the home dyeing process, the blue fabric may exhibit slight irregularities in color. It is expertly hemmed. The blouse has been washed, rendering it clean and ready for use. However, caution is advised during washing, as the black embroidery may bleed. While the bleeding may be less than the initial wash, it is recommended to either dry clean or promptly air-dry if hand-washed.
All antique Hungarian blouses from the Kalotaszeg/Calata area feature embroidery with a material that may bleed in water. With proper care—using a mild detergent, cold water, adding vinegar to the final rinse to fix the color, and immediate drying—the blouse remains unaffected, with the white or blue cotton fabric staying clean.
The blouse is sized XXS - XS, suitable for the smallest women's size or a teenage fit due to the small distance from neck to armpit, measuring 22 cm or 8.66 inches. Please refer to the photos for detailed measurements.
