This is a traditional Romanian headwrap, handwoven from borangic – raw, natural silk – originating from the Oltenia region. It was traditionally worn by married women in Oltenia, Muntenia, and Moldova, and remains an iconic piece of Romanian folk heritage.
The scarf measures approximately 232 x 53 cm (91.3 x 20.9 inches) and features a beige-yellow background with fine white silk stripes woven into the fabric. These subtle horizontal stripes add a refined, airy texture.
The irregularities in the weave and fiber are authentic signs of age (estimated to be around 70–100 years old) and give the piece a special vintage charm.
There is a small hole in the fabric – please see the last photo for detail.
This heirloom textile is perfect as an accessory to a traditional costume or as a collector’s item, rich in Romanian cultural symbolism and history
