This vintage handmade tablecloth is an authentic piece of Transylvanian textile heritage, crafted in the 1960s or 1970s in Central Transylvania. Entirely stitched by hand using colorful cotton thread on white homespun linen, it features intricate traditional embroidery and a unique personal touch: the original owner’s name is hand-embroidered in the center of the cloth.
Measuring 134 x 120 cm (approx. 52.8 x 47.2 in) plus 5 cm (2 in) fringes on all sides, the tablecloth stands out for its artisanal quality and cultural significance.
Condition:
Good vintage condition with two noted flaws:
– A professionally done patch repair covering a coin-sized hole, skillfully completed with matching embroidery. On the front, the repair is nearly invisible (as shown in the final photo); on the back, the patch is visible.
– A small burn mark near one edge, also shown in the last images.
Despite these minor imperfections, this is an exceptional piece, preserved from the household of a local wine producer. It would make a beautiful addition to any vintage textile collection or rustic home décor setting.
