This exquisite antique tablecloth showcases the rich cultural heritage of the ethnic Hungarians from Transylvania. Handwoven from white and red cotton threads, it features beautiful hand-embroidered floral patterns, particularly vibrant red roses. This remarkable piece dates back to 1920.
The center of the tablecloth proudly displays the hand-embroidered name of its creator, "Szekely Kata," along with the year of its completion, "Varta 1920." This personal touch adds a layer of historical significance and uniqueness to the tablecloth.
Bordered with handmade lace, this tablecloth measures 1.7 x 1.3 meters (67" x 51") excluding the lace, with an additional 10 cm (4") of lace on each side.
Despite its age, the tablecloth remains in good condition, exhibiting normal signs of wear. It is intact without any tears, although there are a few yellow-pink spots, the largest of which are visible in the last two photos.
This tablecloth is not only a stunning example of traditional Hungarian folk art from Transylvania but also a unique piece that tells a personal story through its intricate craftsmanship and historical inscriptions.
