This is an exceptionally old traditional blouse from Transylvania, adorned with ancient hand-stitched patterns. It is an archaic Romanian blouse that has been remarkably well-preserved over time. Although I acquired it from Salaj, I believe it likely originates from Lapus or even Chioar/Maramures. The Romanian blouse's age can be determined by its materials and the style of stitching. The cross motif is repeated in two ways on the blouse: in the central pattern and in the secondary embroidery, which is done in black thread.
This Romanian traditional blouse is handcrafted using thick home-woven fabric and cotton thread in green-blue and black colors. The sleeve ruffles are created by inserting elastic on the back. Aside from washing it, I have made no alterations to the blouse, and it has been impeccably preserved. It was clearly intended for adult wear, but due to its age and repeated washings, it has shrunk and is now suitable for museum exhibitions or as a piece for collectors in XXXS size. Please verify the dimensions:
Shoulders: 36 cm (14.17 inches)
Chest circumference: 86 cm (33.85 inches)
Blouse length: 46 cm (18.11 inches)
Sleeve length: 58 cm (22.83 inches)
Circumference of the sleeve opening: 38 cm (15 inches)
Condition: Although I believe it to be around 100 years old, it is in flawless condition, without any defects.
This remarkable Romanian traditional blouse embodies the essence of Transylvanian heritage, featuring ancient craftsmanship and a timeless design. Its historical significance and exceptional condition make it an ideal addition to museum collections, exhibitions, or as a cherished piece for discerning collectors.
