This genuine mid-20th century Romanian towel is a stunning example of traditional craftsmanship from rural Transylvania. Handwoven from a natural mix of hemp and cotton, the fabric displays subtle cream and white striping created by the texture and tone of undyed threads.
The central red folk motifs are woven into the fabric using age-old techniques, reflecting the cultural identity and artisanal heritage of the region. Each end is delicately finished with handmade lace trim (approx. 4 cm / 1.6 in), enhancing its authentic rural charm.
These types of towels were traditionally used in countryside homes to decorate icon corners, dowry trunks, or guest room walls—and were often given as meaningful gifts for weddings and baptisms.
Condition: Very good vintage condition – exceptionally well preserved, with only minimal signs of age from long-term storage. No major flaws.
Dimensions:
Length: 168 cm + 5 cm lace at each end (approx. 70 in + 2 in)
Width: 49 cm (approx. 19.3 in)
A truly beautiful piece for collectors of vintage folk textiles, farmhouse decor lovers, or anyone seeking a timeless item rooted in Eastern European tradition.
