This is a traditional Romanian decorative towel, also known as a ștergar, handwoven in the northwestern region of Transylvania. An authentic vintage piece, estimated to be 40–60 years old, it is made of white cotton and features red woven geometric patterns typical of the area’s folk art. Such towels were commonly used to decorate guest rooms, hung on walls alongside religious icons or ceramic plates, laid on tables, or draped over hope chests. They were also offered as symbolic gifts at weddings and baptisms. The towel measures approximately 162 cm (63.8 inches) in length, with an additional 12 cm (4.7 inches) of handmade lace on each end, and 44 cm (17.3 inches) in width. The textile is in good vintage condition and embodies the rich cultural heritage of Romanian craftsmanship and Transylvanian folk traditions.
