This beautiful vintage Romanian decorative towel (textile) originates from Transylvania and is over 50 years old. Handwoven from a combination of hemp and cotton, it features alternating cream and white stripes created by the natural texture and color of the threads. The central design showcases traditional red woven folk motifs, emblematic of the region’s rich cultural heritage.
At both ends, it is finished with 4 cm of handmade lace (approx. 1.6 in), adding elegance and authenticity. These towels were traditionally used in guest rooms to decorate walls, icon corners, or dowry chests, and were often offered as symbolic gifts at weddings and baptisms.
This piece is in good vintage condition, with minor diffuse stains consistent with age and long-term storage.
Dimensions:
Length: 164 cm + 4 cm lace at each end (approx. 68.1 in + 1.6 in + 1.6 in)
Width: 56 cm (approx. 22 in)
A wonderful collectible for lovers of Romanian folk art, vintage textiles, and authentic Eastern European heritage.
