This is a stunning vintage handmade skirt from Transylvania, Romania. The Romanian folk skirt is made of a heavy and thick hemp material, similar to modern-day denim, and is hand-embroidered with black and yellow cotton thread on flax handwoven traditional fabric.
The embroidery is displayed in two rows on both sides of the skirt and another row on the lower hem of the skirt.
The stitches are fine and delicate, resembling filigree work.
The traditional Romanian skirt has an adjustable waistband with elastic, replacing the old rope. It is a universal size and measures 74 cm (29.13 inches) in length and has a maximum hip circumference of 164 cm (64.56 inches). The skirt dates back to 1900-1940 and is in excellent condition, clean and sturdy.
