Vintage Romanian Blouse with Cutwork Embroidery and Skirt from Transylvania, Arad

A rare and old traditional Romanian costume from Arad, consisting of a short-sleeve blouse and matching skirt. Both pieces are crafted from thin white cotton fabric with cutwork embroidery. This is one of the few Romanian blouses from Transylvania with short sleeves.

The set is over 50 years old and shows significant wear. It is recommended primarily for display in a museum as a rare piece of traditional summer attire from Arad, Transylvania. The cutwork embroidery on the skirt has been repaired in many places, and the blouse appears to have been worn by two generations, as it was expanded at some point by inserting fabric on the sides. The blouse is whiter than the skirt, which has a grayish tint.

From shoulder to underarm: 26 cm (10.2 inches)

Blouse circumference immediately below the arms: 106 cm (41.7 inches), then it widens like a bell, reaching a circumference of 150 cm (59 inches) at the base

Blouse length: 49 cm (19.3 inches)

Skirt:

The skirt is gathered on a waistband. It ties with a string around the waist, and the slit is placed in the front, to be covered by an apron.
