Traditional Romanian Costume from the Carpathian Mountains, Sibiu Valcea Area
This old, hand-sewn traditional Romanian costume consists of three pieces: a Romanian blouse for women adorned with captivating black hand embroidery and applied fabric stripes. It is made of fine commercial cotton.
Designed to fit sizes S-M, the dimensions of this authentic old Romanian blouse are:
Blouse length: 51 cm (20.08 inches)
Chest circumference: 160 cm (62.99 inches)
Sleeve length measured from the neck: 63 cm (24.80 inches)
Neck circumference: 36 cm (14.17 inches)
Although it seems to have a lot of material around the chest, which might suggest it could fit larger sizes, it is no larger than an M (EU sizes 38-40) because the neck is small and the armhole circumference (measured diagonally) is 50 cm (19.69 inches).
Defects: It has a small stain on one sleeve; please check the last picture. It looks like a paint or tar stain. I did not try to remove it with harsh chemicals, and it is not very noticeable. The black embroidery is unevenly faded, which happens when threads from two different sources are used; each thread fades differently over time. However, this adds to the charm of old Romanian blouses, highlighting its vintage nature.
Dating from the period 1930-1950, this Romanian blouse carries with it a rich history and cultural significance. Carefully restored, washed, and ready to wear. While the black hand embroidery may show slight fading due to the age of this authentic blouse and repeated washings, it adds character and authenticity to this captivating piece of traditional Romanian clothing. This handmade Romanian blouse is a true testament to the enduring beauty of Romanian folk costumes.
2. White Skirt
A white skirt made of fine fabric with a row of lace at the hem. It is worn slightly overlapped even if it is large because the slit and overlap are hidden under the aprons.
Waist as it is, not overlapped: 83 cm (32.68 inches)
Length: 73 cm (28.74 inches)
It is flared and attached to a waistband. No defects, slightly used only .
3. Pair of Black Wool Aprons
A pair of black wool aprons with hand-embroidered cutwork embroidery. Very old and extremely well preserved.
This superb old traditional costume is often copied by renowned fashion houses without crediting the source of their inspiration: the old, authentic Romanian folk art.
