Exceptional and Rare  Romanian Traditional Costume from Marginimea Sibiului

This unique traditional costume from Marginimea Sibiului consists of three pieces: an embroidered blouse with yellow-grey patterns, a full traditional skirt, and a pair of woolen aprons with silk embroidery. The costume is quite large, fitting a woman up to 70 kilograms, but you should check the neck circumference. You might consider replacing the metal clasps that close the neck with tassels to gain an extra 1-2 cm.

The Romanian blouse is hand-sewn with silk bands and cross-stitch patterns in yellow and grey (a greyish beige). It has not faded; this is its original color, a rarity. The bands are sewn, not applied.

The traditional skirt is full and pleated at the sides, extending beyond the aprons. It features an openwork band about 10-15 cm from the hem. This is the original skirt of the costume.

The aprons are made of black wool, hand-sewn with black silk and accented with yellow cotton. They are decorated here and there with small metal sequins.

The skirt and aprons are in very good condition.

The Romanian folk blouse has some yellowish streaks in the fabric, which appear to be caused by a yellow thread used for stitching. The yellow thread is visible at the cuff and is a very bright yellow. These streaks no longer wash out. The streaks are pale yellow, similar to scorch marks from ironing. There are a few here and there, but they are not visible when wearing the blouse because it is extremely wide and full. I have tried to capture them in photos without success.

This traditional costume is over 50 years old, handmade from Marginimea Sibiului, and is a rarity in these colors.
