Vintage Romanian traditional costume from Salaj , Transylvania

Old folk wear from Salaj , Transylvania. It consists of three pieces: a traditional Romanian blouse, old Romanian folk  skirt, and a hand-pleated apron (zadie cu bocori in Romanian ) with handmade embroidery .

The traditional Romanian blouse features a "pui peste cot - chicken over elbows " (a horizontal row of embroidery around the elbows) and is hand-sewn onto hand-woven fabric. It showcases exquisite white silk embroidery on the cuffs and shoulders, while the collar and "pui" (elbow details) are stitched with black cotton. The same embroidery decorates the edge of the skirt.

The blouse is sized S  and has the following dimensions:

Neck: 32 cm ( 12.6 " )

Shoulders: 43 cm ( 17 " )

Sleeve circumference: 38 cm ( 15 " )

Sleeve length: 57 cm ( 22.44 " )

Shirt length: 48 cm (18.9 " )

Chest circumference: 130 cm ( 51.18 " )

The original vintage buttons adorn the neckline, while the sleeves feature newer buttons. The blouse is over 60-80 years old and is in good to very good condition. There is a small hand-stitched flower on one shoulder, measuring only a few millimeters, which covers a minor repair. The original length of the blouse has been maintained, as we have chosen not to alter it, except for professional cleaning. However, if desired, we can provide an additional 10 cm ( 4-5 inches ) of similar vintage fabric for extension.

The old Romanian folk skirt is made from the same ensemble. It shares the same fabric and black thread embroidery. It is adjustable at the waist with a string.

This  hand embroidered and hand pleated apron, called "Zadie cu bocori," ( in Romanian )was hand embroidered and pleated by hand in the Cluj area of the Kalotaszegi region (known as Calata in Romanian). The embroidery is superb, worked on dark blue silky and rigid  cloth black  with silk thread. The apron is folded by hand, like all the folk aprons in the area  . 

The apron is an average size with the following dimensions: around  waist 31 cm (12.2 inches), the length is 75 cm (29.5  inches). It is ample and beautiful, and is likely from the 1980s.

This kind of apron is worn by Hungarians from Kalotaszegi region of Transylvania and by Romanian from the same region ( Cluj area , Salaj area , Arad area , Satu Mare  ) 

This apron is in very good condition, lightly used, and has no defects.Please note that it should be dry cleaned only.
