Discover the beauty of an ancient traditional Romanian wear from Salaj, Transylvania. It consists of three pieces: a traditional Romanian blouse, old Romanian folk skirt, and a hand-pleated apron (zadie cu bocori in Romanian ) with handmade embroidery .
The traditional Romanian blouse features a "pui peste cot - chicken over elbows " (a horizontal row of embroidery around the elbows) and is hand-sewn onto hand-woven fabric. It showcases exquisite white silk embroidery on the cuffs and shoulders, while the collar and "pui" (elbow details) are stitched with black cotton. The same embroidery decorates the edge of the skirt.
The blouse is sized S and has the following dimensions:
Neck: 32 cm ( 12.6 " )
Shoulders: 43 cm ( 17 " )
Sleeve circumference: 38 cm ( 15 " )
Sleeve length: 57 cm ( 22.44 " )
Shirt length: 48 cm (18.9 " )
Chest circumference: 130 cm ( 51.18 " )
The original vintage buttons adorn the neckline, while the sleeves feature newer buttons. The blouse is over 60-80 years old and is in good to very good condition. There is a small hand-stitched flower on one shoulder, measuring only a few millimeters, which covers a minor repair. The original length of the blouse has been maintained, as we have chosen not to alter it, except for professional cleaning. However, if desired, we can provide an additional 10 cm ( 4-5 inches ) of similar vintage fabric for extension.
The old Romanian folk skirt is made from the same ensemble. It shares the same fabric and black thread embroidery. It is adjustable at the waist with a string.
Skirt length: 86 cm ( 33.8 ")
Circumference: 2.7 m ( 106 " )
Condition: No defects
The hand-pleated Romanian apron specifically to Transylvania (zadie cu bocori in Romanian ) may not be as old as the blouse and skirt, but it is likely from at least the 1970s. It is meticulously handcrafted with colorful wool thread embroidery applied to pleated fine cotton printed fabric. The abdominal embroideries are particularly stunning.
The cotton fabric has faded due to the age of the apron, but it has no other defects.
The apron is made from green fabric and has been hand-pleated to create a stunning, flowing effect. The pleats are hand-stitched and run vertically down the length of the skirt, while the waist features exquisite hand embroidery and "bocori" - the vertical rows of hand embroidey . It is an apron with 3 rows of buds or " bocori "
In Romanian, this traditional apron is called "zadie cu bocori".
The embroidery around waist and the " bocori " are antique . They was handmade on an wool green fabric which was affected by moth . The former owner of this apron , removed the waist embroidery and the vertical rows of buds from the antique apron and added them on a new apron . So the fabric which form the apron ( the green pleated fabric dated from 1980-1990 ) . The embroidered parts ar from an apron dated back in 1950-1960 .
The apron measures 77 cm ( 30.3 inches ) in length and has a waist measurement of 41 cm ( 16.14 inches ) (excluding the cord). It is in good vintage condition , the pleats and embroiderd waist line are in very good condition . On the vertical rows of embroidery are 3-4 small holes , please , check all photos for details , all flaws was captured in my photos .In spite of these 3-4 holes , the apron is stunning and beautiful .
This folk apron is a one-of-a-kind piece that is perfect for collectors, history enthusiasts, and those who appreciate traditional Romanian craftsmanship. It is a stunning vintage treasure that is sure to be cherished for years to come.
