Romanian folk aprons with metallic embroidery - handmade black aprons from Oltenia

These traditional Romanian aprons from Oltenia are a rare find and an excellent example of the traditional Romanian craft of textile making. Handcrafted in the mid-20th century or earlier, these aprons are adorned with exquisite, handmade lace trim and embellished with spirals of golden and bronze metallic thread.

Measuring 75 cm (29.5 inches) in length and 44 cm (17.32 inches) in width, these aprons are in fine condition, with only a few minor imperfections. While a few of the bronze metallic thread spirals are missing, they do not diminish the overall beauty of the aprons. Furthermore, there are a couple of discreet repairs on the aprons, executed with black thread that blends seamlessly with the black background, rendering them nearly imperceptible.

These Romanian folk aprons are highly scarce and were likely reserved for significant ceremonies, making them an exceptionally valuable addition to any collection of traditional Romanian textiles.
