Handmade pleated apron from Kalotaszeg , Transylvania , Cluj folkloric region .
Kalotaszeg is a region in northwestern Transylvania, Romania, mainly inhabited by Hungarian people. The region is renowned for its distinctive traditional costumes, which are highly ornate and colorful. One of the most important pieces of the female costume is the apron, also known as "zadie."
The apron with pleats from the Cluj area is a stunning example of this traditional garment. It is made of black cotton fabric with a beautiful indigo and green geometric pattern. The pleats are carefully hand-pleated, a technique typical of the region, and the decorative stitching is done by hand in blue, green, and white.
The waistband of the apron is 38 cm ( 15 inches ) around waist, with cord ties for adjustment. The embroidered pattern at the waistband measures approximately 55-59 cm( 21.65 inches -23.22inches ) in width, and the apron is 91 cm ( 36 inches ) in length. It is a loose-fitting, flowing garment, with a beautiful drape that enhances the fluidity of the design.
This particular apron is likely from the 1970s or 1980s and is in excellent condition, with no signs of wear or damage. It should be dry cleaned only to preserve its beauty and integrity. Overall, this folk apron is a stunning piece of traditional Hungarian clothing, and a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the Kalotaszeg region. It is also worn by Romanians from Cluj , Salaj and certain areas from Arad .
