Hungarian Kalotaszeg tablecloth, vintage handmade IRASOS hand embroidery

This exquisite Hungarian  tablecloth, runner, or center table is a superbly hand-embroidered piece that originated from the Western Transylvania/Kalotaszeg region of Hungary. It is the most famous Hungarian hand embroidery from this area, known as the "written" embroidery or IRASOS.

This particular piece is approximately 50-60 years old and is hand-embroidered with red cotton thread on a hemp/flax linen fabric, similar to a very dense sack. The size of the tablecloth is 120 x 60cm (47.24 x 23.62 inches), making it a perfect size for a variety of uses.

Despite its age, this piece is in very good condition with only minor signs of wear and tear. It appears to have never been used, but to be sure, it has been machine washed to remove any storage smells or dirt, making it ready for use in any setting.
