Vintage hand made Romanian peasant costume from Transylvania
A genuine hallmark of the shepherds in Carpathian Mountains, in between Sibiu and Valcea counties, the costume of this area has a well defined personality through the black and white contrast which the basic pieces display. The beauty and the elegance of the apparel aroused the admiration of the intelligentsia, who adopted this costume as as a national emblem at the beginning of the 20th century.

The female traditional blouse decorated with " umeras " and " sire "on the sleeve is thought to have originated in this area. This variant has the sleeve ending in " fodra " (flounce) and an ornament with " ciocanele ", black stripes hand sewn on the blouse.
This costume contain 2 pieces:
1. the dress which is M - L or L size. The measurements of the dress are
length: 129 cm or 50.78 inches
around chest: 140 cm or 55.11 inches
around waist : 140 cm or 55.11 inches
sleeve's length from the base of the neck : 71 cm or 28 inches
Noteworthy is the fact that the stripes on the blouse are completely hand stitched with black cotton thread. The fabric is handmade / homespun cotton fabric / linen .
Very good condition, clean and nice , very slightly worn only .
The blouse age: 1920 - 1940. Very hard to find blouses with hand stitched stripes and meantime in this size.
2. Pair of aprons made of black wool fabric, commercial fabric called in Romanian " postav ", decorated with handmade lace and silk tassels on the lower hem of the front apron. Dated most probably in between 1950 - 1970.
Size: 70 cm x 36 cm wide, measured including the lace border or 27. 55 inches x 14. 7 inches. The frontal apron have silk tassels on the lower hem.
Condition: good condition with minor traces of the wear, no tear, no hole, no stain. Very well preserved.
Museum quality costume, hard to find in this size and with the stripes hand stitched.
